Muay Thai jsem začal trénovat v roce 1996, kdy to ještě byl sport, kterému se věnovalo pouze pár vyvolených nadšenců. Chtěl jsem se stát jedním z nich, ale o nějaké závodní kariéře se mi opravdu ani nesnilo. V té době mi bylo 13 let a začal jsem trénovat se svým kamarádem Michalem *Mikešem* Vančurou z Líbeznic. Tehdy jsme to brali jen jako něco, co nás bavilo, a proto jsme první dva roky trénovali jen tak pro zábavu. Trénink nebyl jen tak, dojížděli jsme třikrát týdně, zhruba hodinu na trénink a hodinu zpátky. Na tréninku jsme byli suverénně nejmladší a to, že to byla výhoda, mi dochází teprve teď, v tu dobu tomu bylo spíše naopak. Trénink byl dost fyzicky náročný a sparringy (tréninkový zápas) a drily (nácvik kombinací technik) se staršími a hlavně o dost těžšími kamarády vyžadovaly silnou vůli a tréninkovou morálku. Bavila nás ovšem uvolněná atmosféra a opravdu kamarádský přístup všech, takže jsme vydrželi. To, že to někdy opravdu bolelo a dřívější tréninkové metody se o dost lišily od těch současných, snad ani nemusím psát. Takže dojít na tramvaj s rozkopanými stehny byl někdy docela problém...
Ale všechna krev a všechen pot po těch letech tréninku se nakonec začínal vyplácet. Snažím se celou dobu chovat podle přísloví našeho Khru (trenéra) Jak trénuješ, tak budeš bojovat. Proto přípravu na zápas nikdy nepodceňuji, v tomto sportu se to taky nevyplácí, protože v Muay Thai se vám nemůže stát, že prohrajete jako ve fotbale a v klidu si půjdete sednout do šatny. Zápas bolí a rekonvalescence po něm trvá minimálně 14 dní. Zápasník musí být nejen výborně fyzicky a technicky vybaven, ale musí též dobře zvládat psychickou stránku věci.
Já osobně jsem zcela propadl Muay Thai hned po první návštěvě kolébky tohoto sportu - Thajska. Proto se snažím v boji uplatňovat tzv. thajský styl boje, rytmus je trochu jiný a pokud to bojovník dobře zvládá, činí tím svým soupeřům nemalé problémy. Neobjektivním lidem se může zdát, že Muay Thai je bezduché a surové bití soupeře, ale to je největší omyl. Muay Thai je o tvrdém tréninku, o úctě k soupeři a o vlastní víře ve své schopnosti. Někdo, kdo nerespektuje tyto základní hodnoty, podle mého soudu nemůže docílit výraznějších vítězství.
A tak jsem kolem 17 let začal zápasit. Začátky byly krušné, sbírání zkušeností nebylo jednoduché, ale nějak jsem se přes toto období přenesl a začal jsem na sobě více pracovat. Nebylo jednoduché skloubit každodenní tréninky se školou, ale podařilo se to a dostudoval jsem SPŠE obor manager elektrotechniky. Jelikož mě thajský box zcela pohltil, dlouho jsem neváhal a další své studium jsem zaměřil na sport.
V současné době trénuji 6-7krát týdně, před blížícím se zápasem i dvakrát denně. Snažím se také věnovat regeneraci, protože je stejně důležitá, jako samotný trénink. Věřím, že seženu dobrého sponzora a po ukončení studia bych se chtěl věnovat zápasnické kariéře naplno, profesionálně. Podmínky na to u nás sice nejsou zcela ideální, ale pokusím se na tom trochu zapracovat a pokud se to nepovede mně, může se to povést někomu dalšímu, tak, jak je to již v zemích západní Evropy zcela běžné.
Jelikož ale vím, že může přijít nečekané zranění, čemuž se v tomto sportu nemůže nikdo divit, dávám důraz také na rozvíjení svých trenérských a managerských schopností. Nevím, co bude za pět let, ale vím jistě, že pokud nebudu stát v ringu jako bojovník, budu sedět vedle něj právě jako trenér nebo manager.
